5 tips for attending a Fira de Barcelona conference

This week, the Mobile World Congress organisers announced that Barcelona will continue as host city for the major trade event until at least 2018. Enjoy Apartments congratulates Fira de Barcelona for the excellent bid to the organisers. GSMA explained that their selection was due to the city’s “combination of outstanding exhibition and conference facilities, its transportation and hospitality.”

In time to celebrate the Fira de Barcelona’s win, we have updated our Enjoy-Barcelona guides to help orient visitors to the major conference venues across the city. This includes both Fira de Barcelona venues called Fira Montjuich and Fira Gran Via, and not to forget the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya and the ultramodern CCIB Barcelona International Conference Centre and Forum Auditorium.

If you’re planning to attend the next World Mobile Congress in 2012 (from 27 February to 1 March), or one of the over industry events being hosted here, scan our list of top tips below. We want to help you juggle your event participation with a chance to explore Barcelona, here’s how:

1. Plan your networking in advance: Check the conference organisers website before the actual event and download a copy of registered participants. Start planning who to introduce yourself to in advance.

2. Give some thought to your ‘elevator script’: Fira de Barcelona conferences attract a high calibre and huge number of interested participants so being able to describe who your are and what you do in a sentence or two will help you build a network you can keep.

3. Stay within walking distance of the venue. While Barcelona is an accessible city with conveniently placed metro stations and a worldclass, safe, clean and efficient subway system, staying in a Barcelona apartments near Fira de Barcelona gives you a respite from the bustle of the event and you will have the room to spread out a little. The walk to the venue and home each day will lets you appreciate Barcelona at a local level.

4. Network over a meal at a quality Barcelona restaurant: Barcelona is going through a gastronomic era of growth at the moment and this shows in many of the city’s eateries – from the cheap to the classy. Go home having tried a new tapas invention or a Catalan dinner classic.

5. Get a view: At Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuich venue, you can choose between the rooftop panorama of Arenas de Barcelona or climb the outdoor escalators to the Catalunyan National Museum of Art to see stunning vistas of this most cosmopolitan and vibrant of European cities.
