A well-deserved vacation, everyone needs it. Usual we travel to a large city to shop till we cant handle all the bags of or go to one of the sunny destinations to lay down on the beach all day! It happens a lot that people eat and live unhealthy when they travel, but don’t let an upcoming vacation ruin YOUR healthy lifestyle. Stay on track with these 5 travel tips & tricks!

 

Discover the city by foot or bike
Why always take the public transport? Discover the city by foot or bike and you will see more (undiscovered) sights of the city in an active way. In the most of the cities free walking tours are offered. These tours show you various and beautiful parts of the city: You are active by seeing the city by foot and at the same time the free tour saves you time, you don´t have to figure out the routes yourself! A faster way of travelling? Rent a bike! You often get a tour by renting a bike. Beat that ass of!
Beat the jetlag
For those which travel ¨trough time¨, the jet lag can be a serious challenge. It makes you groggy and disrupts your rythm of sleeping and eating. Often you take unhealthy and fast food and snacks because you are tired and don´t have a lot of time. But you can beat the jetlag! First of all it´s important to stay hydrated and avoid caffeine and alcohol (so, no coffee at the ¨second morning¨!). These can mess up your rythm and increase the jetlag symptoms. Beside that, it´s important to eat high protein meals, these enlarge your alertness throughout the day. Last but not least: workout! If you sport the days after your arrival you´ll sleep better and feel less groggy.
Avoid touristic restaurants
In every big city it´s easy to have a meal at one of the busy restaurants near to the touristic attractions. There are a lot of extensive and expensive dishes on the menu. Those dishes are often fried, they are greasy beacause frying is a fast way of preparing food for the countless number of tourists. But why not eat in a local restaurant? At this restaurants there are more healthy dishes on the menu, made with pure, fresh and local food. Don´t be affraid if the owner doesn´t speak perfectly English or there aren´t any pictures of the dishes on the menu. You need to walk a little bit futher (which is also ver healthy!), but you get better food for a reasonable price. Those are three birds wit one stone!
Take the stairs
Maybe this one is a bit cliché, but you can really burn a lot of calories by taking the stairs! Whenever on a vacation or elsewhere, remember that when you take the stairs you´ll burn about 7 times more calories than taking an elevator or an escalator. It´s a tip that you can apply very simple into your visits to the touristic attractions, during shopping or just by walking through the city.
The city is your playground
You want to run from it all? Go discover the city while running your miles! All big cities have a big park where you can run and enjoy this piece of nature in the middle of the city. If you are not in a city with a park, than I am pretty sure that you are on a beachholiday, don´t make up any excues and go take that boulevard! You can download the Strava app on your phone for nice running routes from locals. The best time for your run is in the morning when it is quiet, the city is yours!
