Nightlife in Barcelona

Barcelona has a vibrant nightlife. There is always enough to do. We tell you where to go in Barcelona and which clubs are the most popular.

Entertainment areas

El born

One of our favorite nightlife areas is El Born. The hip neighborhood has a wide range of nice terraces and cozy bars. The vibrant nightlife of this district can be found around the Passeig del Born. The bars here are open until the middle of the night and you will find beautiful wine bars and cozy dance cafes. You just don’t come across big clubs here.

Beach

The entertainment area around the Port Olímpic is located on the beach. Here you will find the luxury clubs Shoko, Opium and Pacha, which are among the most famous clubs in Barcelona.

Carrer Arribau

In this area just above the Diagonal you will find many bars, clubs and discotheques. This area is especially popular with locals, so you will encounter fewer tourists here. Major clubs such as Sutton, Bling Bling and Soho can be found here. Otto Zutz can also be found here, this club is especially popular among students. And this one is not far from this area.

Gothic Quarter

One of the nicest and most enjoyable nightlife areas is the Gothic Quarter, the center that is always bustling. The lively Plaça Reial square is located in this district, where you will find the popular club Jamborree. In addition, there are also countless cozy bars, pubs, cafes and pubs where you can have a drink until the late hours. There is also a nice but not big club named Marula Café.

Poblenou (Sant Martí)

The Poblenou district is home to the popular Razmatazz club, but also has many underground nightlife venues.

Gayxample

Looking for a specific gay nightlife? Then you have to go to the part of Eixample, which is also called Gayxample. Several gay friendly bars and restaurants can be found here.

You can go out in Barcelona until the early hours. Spaniards usually dine late on weekends and pop into the cafe until about three o’clock. Only then do they go to the nightclub. Most clubs and discotheques open their doors around 1am-1:30am. They close again between 5am and 6am. So that’s enough time for a fun nightlife. But where do you have to be for the right party?

Popular clubs

So check the site in advance for upcoming events to be aware of fun evenings. The terrace of Opium Bar is one of the most cozy spots in the summer evenings. Furthermore, Opium Mar is located next to the beach.

Helpful tips

  • Spaniards are generous with alcohol. A mixed drink easily contains twice as much spirits as you may be used to, so don’t order too much at once.
  •  Make sure you enjoy it in moderation. If you appear too drunk, you may be refused entry at the entrance.
  • Watch out for the use of drugs. It can prevent people from throwing something in your drink. So keep a close eye on your drink.
  • Always keep a close eye on your belongings. Clubs and discotheques are also grounds for pickpockets. Before you know it, while you are dancing, you have lost your money and mobile phone.
  • Some clubs have a dress code and you cannot enter in your slippers. Always check this in advance on the site to avoid problems.
  • In most clubs it only gets busy around 2 am, so don’t come much earlier otherwise you will be in a half-empty club.
  • To avoid a long queue, you can put yourself on the guest list. This can often be done via the club’s website or Facebook page.
  • In Barcelona you are not allowed to drink in public. You can get a hefty fine for this. So just make sure you drink inside the club.
  • And above all: have fun with each other
